The Lohman Professorship
The Lohman Professorship is awarded to faculty members who have
distinguished themselves in teaching, student relations and curriculum
development. Funds from the professorship are used for the enhancement
of education programs. The first holder of this professorship was
Carl A. Erdman. It is currently held by James
T. P. Yao
(1996 to present). The Lohman Professorship in Engineering Education
has been established to
improve the academic environment in the Dwight Look College of Engineering
at Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas. The professorship
pursues activities which
- Motivate the faculty to value teaching by improving the academic
culture and faculty reward system on campus.
- Improve teaching capability
- Enhance educator-practitioner collaboration
- Increase public awareness of the faculty's activities
- Improve the curriculum
- Disseminate information relevant to the improvement of engineering
education
An Advisory Committee has also formed, consisting of Richard
Alexander of Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Technology,
Rich
Feldman of Industrial Engineering, Mark
Weichold of Electrical Engineering (1996-1999), Stephanie Crouch
of Computer Science (1999-2000), and Nancy
Amato of Computer Science (2000-present).
